For over 45 years, Jan Ziska Crawford has brought expert demographic and psychographic targeting and political savvy to campaign media consulting. You might say that the new wave of media has finally caught up to her!

A Colorado native and daughter of a career Naval Officer and pilot, Jan has lived all over the country and knows the market nuances of our diverse country. Jan’s broadcast experience began at WMAQ-TV (NBC O&O – CHI) learning the inner workings of broadcast entities and becoming the first woman in Chicago to schedule commercials – at any Chicago station.

She returned to Colorado to study International Relations and Russian Language at the University of Colorado, Boulder. 

Jan’s political career started with Rich Gebhardt’s Congressional race in 1970. While not victorious that year, Jan’s work on the campaign sparked interest in her expertise. Jan was asked in 1972 to handle the media for Floyd Haskell who defeated a 30-year incumbent and was the upset of the year. 

Dick Lamm called Jan back from Haskell’s Washington staff to handle media for his Gubernatorial race in 1974. Dick went on to win a three-way primary and to unseat Governor John Love. Dick Lamm went on to serve three terms as Governor. 

She went on to become the Broadcast Expert at the AFL-CIO and then was lured back into consulting by Bob Squier, President of The Communications Company. As a consultant, Jan created the Media Department and handled all media planning, buying, negotiating and P & L statements – sometimes even providing creative ideas. 

Since then, she has managed media strategy for issue, local, gubernatorial, congressional, and presidential campaigns. 

She is also a former Board Member of the American Association of Political Consultants.
